The home investigations revealed that many families had abundantEven as a white american student our teachers never considered what we were learning outside of the classroom. There were many learning experiences going on in my house that teachers were not aware of. My grandparents were always talking about their experiences with the great depression and other moments of history they lived through. My dad is a carpenter and always let my little sister and I help him, which required numerous math skills. Cooking with mom required math and reading skills.
knowledge that the schools did not know about--and therefore did not
use in order to teach academic skills.
Regardless of the person's background, everyone is learning outside of the classroom. It is a good reminder to teachers that we need to be making those connections to help students retain information and enrich their learning.
Digital Story: My Funds of Knowledge and More
This video is about one persons funds of knowledge and her view of stereotypes. It was interesting to listen to her story. The video is probably a form of assignment or project for class.
